God’s Own County
The Yorkshire Dales National Park and Yorkshire itself is a beautiful place, hence the name ‘God’s own country. The history and landscape allures people from all around the world and has a bit of everything for everyone. I have always lived on the edge of the Dales, and visited regularly ever since I was a young lad. However, I never truly appreciated the area until in my late 20’s where I began to cycle and hike/walk more regularly. I found my hunger and curiosity grew the more I visited, immersing myself in the landscape.
Below you will find the hikes/walks that have ratings of difficulty and contain mainly my own stories, routes, GPX files and, photographs. Some longer than others. I hope others can enjoy their own Yorkshire adventure like me.
BLOGS & ROUTES
Buckden Pike
This walk provides fantastic views along Wharfedale, scales the heights of Buckden Pike, and passes a memorial to some Polish pilots who were killed in a plane crash during World War II.

Howgills Fells
Starting from Sedburgh on the border of the Yorkshire Dales in Cumbria. This is a walk that entails a day out through the rolling hills of the Howgills fells.

Stoodley pike
Stoodley Pike is a 1,300ft hill in the South Pennies of West Yorkshire. The pike is 121ft and has views over Calderdale, Hebden Bridge, Todmorden, and Mytholmroyd. There is also a stairwell inside the monument that you can walk up for a better view over the valley.

Pateley Bridge
Pateley Bridge, in Nidderdale North Yorkshire, is an idyllic market town and known as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), it is also home to the oldest sweet shop in the world and a delicious chocolate shop called ‘Cocoa Joe’s’! Whilst taking in the sites and leisurely enjoying all that the market town has to offer, be sure to visit Brimham Rocks too. (A collection of geological rock formations) This is only a 10-minute drive away.

Great Shunner fell & lovely seat
Located on the north side of the Yorkshire Dales just off Hawes in a small town called Hardraw. I parked on a lay-by near the Hardraw sign. Here I began the walk which was on clear paths up to Cotterdale.

Yorkshire three peaks
The Yorkshire three peaks is an Iconic walk that is on a lot of people’s bucket lists to complete. It is a 24.5-mile hike that covers all three of Yorkshire’s highest peaks in one day, these include Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside, and Ingleborough.

Great Knoutberry
It was the start of 2019 and we decided to bring in the new year with a peaceful walk in the Yorkshire Dales. We were very lucky with the weather as it was content sunshine all day!

A fairly easy circular walk that you can see the Yorkshire three peaks on a clear day, offering all of the beauty the Yorkshire dales has to offer.
